INGREDIENTS

  • 1 medium-sized watermelon: Seedless if possible, peeled, and chopped into cubes
  • 1–2 limes: Freshly squeezed, seeds removed
  • 2 tablespoons sugar: Adjust to taste (optional, if the watermelon isn’t sweet enough)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger: Peeled and grated or chopped (optional but adds a nice Jamaican twist)
  • Ice cubes: For serving
  • 4 cups of water (optional): To adjust consistency if needed
  • Lime wedges or watermelon wedges: For garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Wash and cut the watermelon.
  • Peel the watermelon and chop it into smaller cubes to make blending easier.
  • If using, peel and grate or chop the ginger.
  • Wash the limes, cut them in half, and squeeze out the juice, making sure to remove the seeds.

Blend the Ingredients:

  • Place the chopped watermelon cubes into the blender.
  • Add fresh lime juice. If using ginger, add the grated or chopped ginger at this stage.
  • Blend the mixture until it’s completely smooth and combined.
  • If you prefer a lighter consistency, add water as needed to adjust the thickness of the juice (optional).

Strain the Juice (optional):

  • For a smoother texture, pour the blended watermelon mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl. Use a spoon to press down and extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp.

Adjust the Consistency (optional):

  • Taste the juice and adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar or lime juice according to your preference.

Chill and Serve:

  • Transfer the juice to a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill (optional).
  • When ready to serve, pour the juice over ice cubes in glasses.
  • Garnish with a slice of watermelon or mint leaves for a refreshing finish.

NOTES

●  Watermelon contains a high percentage of water on its own, so adding extra water is entirely optional. If the juice feels too thick or too sweet for your taste, you can add water to lighten it. However, adding water may dilute the natural, vibrant flavor of the watermelon, so adjust carefully based on your preference.
