INGREDIENTS

  • 4-5 ripe mangoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1-2 limes, freshly squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, peeled and grated (optional for a Jamaican twist)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or sugar (optional, depending on the sweetness of the mangoes)
  • 2 cups of cold water (to adjust consistency)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)
  • Lime wedges or thin slice of mango (optional, for garnish)

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Wash and peel the mangoes. Cut the flesh away from the seed and chop it into cubes for easy blending.
  • If using, peel and grate or finely chop the ginger.
  • Wash the limes, cut them in half, and squeeze out the juice, ensuring no seeds remain.

Blend the Ingredients:

  • Add the mango chunks to the blender: Place the peeled and chopped mangoes into the blender.
  • Add fresh lime juice. If using ginger, add the grated or chopped ginger at this stage.
  • If the mangoes are not sweet enough, add honey or sugar to taste.
  • Blend the mixture until it’s smooth and the ingredients are fully combined. The texture should be thick and creamy.

Adjust Consistency (optional):

  • If you prefer a thinner consistency, slowly add the cold water while blending until you reach the desired thickness.
  • Taste the juice and adjust sweetness or lime to your liking.

Strain the Juice (optional):

  • Strain for smoothness: For a smoother juice, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl or pitcher. Use a spoon to press the pulp and extract as much juice as possible. Discard the remaining pulp.

Chill and Serve:

  • Transfer the mango juice to a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill, or serve immediately.
  • Serve over ice: Pour the juice over ice cubes in glasses for a refreshing finish.
  • Garnish: Add a lime wedges or a thin slice of mango for garnish, if desired.

NOTES

● Choosing Mangoes: For the best results, use fully ripe mangoes. Avoid underripe mangoes, as they may result in a tart and fibrous juice.
● Sweetness: Mangoes are naturally sweet, so you may not need to add any additional sweeteners like honey or sugar. Taste the juice first and adjust according to your preference. If the mangoes are very ripe, you may be able to skip the sweetener entirely.
● Ginger or Lime: You can substitute lime for ginger if you prefer a more citrusy flavor over the spiciness of ginger. Alternatively, you may use both lime and ginger for a balanced mix of both flavors.
● Straining the Juice: If you prefer a thicker, more pulpy juice, you can skip the straining step. For a smoother, cleaner juice, strain it using a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove excess pulp.
