- 6-8 fresh limes
- 1 cup sugar (adjust based on your preferred sweetness)
- 5-6 cups cold water
- Optional: 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- Ice cubes for serving
- 1 Lime for garnish (optional)
Prepare the Ingredients:
Wash the fresh limes thoroughly.
If using ginger, peel and grate or finely chop the ginger.
Cut the limes in half and squeeze out the juice, making sure to remove any seeds.
Prepare the sugar to sweeten the lemonade to your taste.
Combine/Blend the Ingredients:
In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lime juice and brown sugar. Pour in water and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. If using ginger, combine the fresh lime juice, sugar, and grated or chopped ginger in a blender. Pour in water and blend until the sugar is fully dissolved and the ginger is well mixed.
Strain the Lemonade (Optional):
If you prefer a smoother drink, pour the lime mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large pitcher. If using ginger, this step is necessary to remove any ginger pieces.
Press down with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard any ginger or pulp left behind.
Chill and Serve:
Transfer the lemonade to a pitcher. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill, or serve immediately.
When ready to serve, pour the lemonade over ice cubes in glasses.
Garnish with lime wedges for an extra refreshing touch if desired.
