INGREDIENTS

  • 5-6 Jamaican apples (Otaheite apples): Washed and chopped
  • 1 lime: Halved, seeds removed, and freshly squeezed
  • 1 piece of ginger: Peeled and grated or chopped (optional, adds a nice zing)
  • 2-3 cups cold water: To help with blending
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar: Adjust to taste
  • Ice cubes: For serving

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Wash the Jamaican apples thoroughly to remove any dirt.
  • Chop the apples into smaller pieces, removing the core and seeds.
  • If you are using ginger, peel and grate or chop the ginger.

Blend the Ingredients:

  • Place the chopped Jamaican apples into the blender.
  • Add fresh lime juice. If you are using ginger, add the grated or chopped ginger at this stage.
  • Pour in the water to help with blending, then blend until the mixture is smooth.

Strain the Juice:

  • Pour the blended apple mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl. Use a spoon to press down and extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp.

Adjust the Flavor (Optional):

  • Taste the juice and adjust the sweetness with adding sugar, according to your preference.

Chill and Serve:

  • Transfer the juice to a pitcher.
  • Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill (optional).
  • When ready to serve, pour the juice over ice cubes in glasses.

NOTES

●  You can substitute lime for ginger if you prefer a more citrusy flavor over the spiciness of ginger. Alternatively, you may use both lime and ginger for a balanced mix of both flavors.
